Zack Leon Martin

Zack Leon Martin
October 28, 1925 - November 3, 2012

Zack Leon Martin, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 87 years of age.

Zack was born October 28, 1925 in Wetumka, Oklahoma, born the fifth and youngest child to Zack and Annie Miller Martin. His mother died of tuberculosis when he was seven and after that he was mostly on his own. He was sixteen years of age when he entered the United States Navy in September of 1942. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on February 2, 1946. He and Betty Jo Foster were married June 6, 1947, and to this union were born five children.

Zack worked for Conoco for thirty three years and retired in 1984. He and Betty RVed for several years before settling down again. Zack drove cars for Bowker Ford and Charles Thompson and discovered volunteering at Ponca City Medical Center. He became enamored with volunteering to the point that if roads were too bad to drive in winter, he would walk to Ponca City Medical Center. He was forced to retire again in the spring of 2011 for health reasons.

The family consists of his wife, Betty daughters Brenda Dulinsky and husband Richard, Karen Rochelle and husband George, Traci Worley and husband Roger, one son, Zack Martin Jr. and wife Kaelyn six grandsons, Patrick DeJulius, Paul DeJulius, Joe Revels, Doby Martin, Zack Martin III Tre and Tyler Rochelle three granddaughters, Kayla Rochelle, Kamille Worley and Kassidi Worley and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents one infant daughter, Sheryl Ann, and all his siblings.

A nontraditional memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Community Christian Church with Pastor Mark Lyons presiding.
