Virgil Earnest “Pops” Marler

Virgil Earnest “Pops” Marler
February 16, 1955 ~ June 26, 2022

Virgil Earnest “Pops” Marler, went to his eternal fishing hole June 26, 2022 at the age of 67 years old. He was born Feb 16, 1955 to George W. and Virgina Lee Marler in Bartlesville, OK. He graduated from College High in 1973 and the following November married Bess Sears, the catch of his life.They made their home in Hogshooter Ok and had 2 sons, Eddie and Brandon.

Virgil worked at Homeland on Madison for 25 years where he retired in 2019. He was vice president of the local 1000 UFCW union. He was loved and admired by many and was referred to as the Homeland guy, often wearing costumes on Halloween and his Santa hat during the Christmas season. He was assistant Scoutmaster for troop 19 in Dewey, OK with his sons for 7 years, often taking them camping and boating. Virgil loved fishing, hunting and going to the casino. Since retirement he enjoyed going to balloon festivals with his wife and sister. He was very proud of his grandkids and enjoyed spending time with them boating, fishing and kayaking. He was also an avid chess player with an extensive collection of more than 100 chess sets.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tommy Marler and George Marler Jr. as well as brother-in-laws Wiley Sears and Bill Sears.

He is survived by his wife Bess of 48 years, son Eddie Marler and wife Tania, son Brandon Marler and friend Kerri, bonus son Brian Burr and wife Amanda, grandkids Eric, Katie and Brandie, brother Jerry Marler and wife Janet, sister Janice Coleman and husband John, brother-in-law Wayne Sears, brother-in-law Ray Sears and wife Marie, and his best friend for over 60 years Bill Potter, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Celebration of life dinner is July 16th from 5pm to 7pm at the Ramona American Legion. Please come and share your favorite memories.
