Robert (Bob) Mahoney

February 20, 1907 ~ December 10, 1980

Freedom – Robert (Bob) Mahoney, 73, died Wednesday in a Buffalo hospital following a period of ill health.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday in the Freedom Christian Church with the Rev. Gib Clark, pastor of the Coldwater Christian Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 PM in the Crown Hill Cemetery at Coldwater, Kansas.

The Wharton Funeral Chapel of Alva is in charge of arrangements.

Mahoney was born February 20, 1907, in Burlington. Shortly afterward, the family moved to the Lookout area in western Woods County.

He attended the Moundridge rural school and the Burlington high school. Mahoney worked on ranches in the Lookout area as a cowboy and later worked as a truck driver.

On May 10, 1937, he and Laura Hoffman were married at Woodward. They farmed and ranched in the Lookout area and in 1945 moved to a ranch southeast of Coldwater, Kansas.

After his retirement in 1974, the Mahoney's moved to Freedom. He was a member of the Freedom Old Cowhands Association and the Pratt, Kansas, Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Survivors include his wife Laura of the home; a niece who made her home with them, Vivian Boley and a sister, Marjorie (Mrs. Earl) Mains of Bakersfield, California.

Mahoney's family has suggested that those who wish make contributions in his memory to the Freedom Museum or to the Heart Fund. Wharton's will serve as custodian of the memorial fund.
