M. Richard Mahan

Dec. 27, 1931 ~ 2007

The funeral for M. Richard Mahan, 75, of Medford will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Pond Creek. Burial will be in Hardtner Elwood Cemetery, Hardtner, Kan. Arrangements are by Hills-Ely Funeral Home, Medford.

He was born Dec. 27, 1931, in McPherson, Kan., to Marvin Rufus and Mary Lois Carr Mahan.

He join-ed the Army in 1948. He served for seven years in the Army, Kansas National Guard and Air Force Reserve. After service he attended Wichita Business College and Wichita State University. He married Carol Sue Prock in 1956. He later married Suzanne Marie Smith May 2, 1975, in Wichita. He was a manufacturing engineer and worked for several aircraft companies, retiring from Boeing in 1994. The family moved to Medford in 2005 from Belle Plaine, Kan. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Pond Creek. He was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars in Haysville, Kan., and American Legion in Mulvane, Kan.

Surviving are his wife Suzanne, of the home; three sons, Robert Keith Mahan of Lebanon, Mo., Toby Michael Mahan of Wichita and William Thomas Mahan of Riley, Kan.; three daughters, Tammie Sue Barrier of Lebanon, Mo., Sherry Lynne Kleinow of Richland, Mo., and Tina Marie Mahan of Wichita; two sisters, Joan Lavonne Anders and Mary Louise Wiltshire, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Robert Hugh Mahan of Medford; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, one son, one daughter and one granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Cancer Center of Kansas, Heritage Plaza Medical Building, 818 N. Emporia, #403, Wichita, KS 67214.
