Mitchell Ray Lumry

Mitchell Ray Lumry
October 14, 1964 ~ May 22, 2019

Mitchell Ray Lumry went to be with the Lord May 22, 2019, in Lumberton, TX. The son of Kenneth and Patsy (Dan) Lumry, Mitch was born October 14, 1964, in Holyoke, MA. As the son of an Air Force officer, Mitch lived numerous places during his life. Graduating from Altus High School in Altus, Oklahoma (1982), he was a valedictorian of his class. Mitch earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1987. While attending OSU, he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, Campus Crusade for Christ, and several engineering organizations.

Mitch married the love of his life, Corey Dawn Riddles on November 28, 1987. God blessed their marriage with three beautiful daughters, Lauren, Cassidy, and McKenzie. Mitch’s daughters say that he had a special way of making each of them feel as though they were his favorite. He was a loving and fiercely devoted husband to “Honey”, and father to “Puddin”, “Pumpkin”, and “Sweetie Pie”. Over the last three years, Mitch’s heart grew even bigger as he became “Bearpaw” to his grandchildren and biggest fans, Liam and Eden.

Mitch’s professional career began in Longview, TX as a chemical engineer with Eastman Kodak. He then returned to Shawnee, Oklahoma where he spent most of his career at the Mobil Chemical / ExxonMobil Plastics Plant. Holding numerous positions in production and management, he was a dedicated employee, even during a transition to new ownership with Jindal Plastics Enterprises. In June of last year, Mitch returned to ExxonMobil in Beaumont, TX in Refinery Safety and Operations. Mitch was honored to receive the ExxonMobil Technology Award in 2010, ExxonMobil Responsible Care Award in 2009 and numerous Special Recognition awards from 2003 to 2013. He served on various boards, including the United Way as a Board Member from 2014 to 2017, Oklahoma State University Industrial Advisory Committee in 2006, Oklahoma State University Chemical Engineering Alumni Association President from 1997 to 1999, Support of United Way Day of Caring Community service projects and organized several community service activities for St. Gregory’s Therapeutic Riding Stables.

His love for God’s creation and outdoor recreation was birthed as a boy living in both Alaska and Hawaii. Never a day went by that there wasn’t a dream for adventure – hunting, fishing, boating, and traveling…you name it, he loved it! His family will forever treasure memories they built during travels to Taos, NM, France, Jackson Hole, WY, Italy, Alaska, Costa Rica, and many other destinations.

Mitch was a man of strong Christian faith and deep integrity. As a devoted father, Mitch taught his daughters the most important thing of all; to love the Lord and faithfully commit themselves to Him. He was an active and charter member of Life.Church Shawnee while living in Oklahoma. Most recently he was actively involved with Praise Church in Beaumont, Texas, Novo Charites @ Novo.org, Life.Church in Shawnee, OK, Cargo Ranch in Shawnee, OK, Stable-Spirit in Vidor, TX, Campus Crusade for Christ, Hunger Relief International, Orphanos.org, The Harbor.org in St. Petersburg, Russia, and BTX Peloton Cycling Club.

Left to honor his memory is Corey, his loving wife of 31 years, daughters, Lauren Teal Chavez and husband Michael, of Edmond, OK, Cassidy Kylan Lumry of Shawnee, OK and McKenzie Rae Lumry of Moore, OK; two precious grandchildren Liam Ray (3) and Eden Elizabeth (1) Chavez; his parents; sisters, Kelli Hoffman (Bob) of Macon, GA; Karen Ledbetter (John) of Oklahoma City, OK; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Kay Lumry.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2019 with family gathering to greet friends and family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home.
