Nelta Jean Lopez was born February 26th, 1941 in Kenwood, Oklahoma to Mattie Dodson and Willie Crook. She passed away at her home northeast of Erick, Oklahoma on Thursday, February 12th, 2026 at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 17 days.
Nelta, at a young age, helped her dad with coon hounds on their family farm near Sweetwater, Oklahoma. She attended school and graduated from Sweetwater High School and continued to help her family on the farm. Nelta could be found in the Sayre area selling produce at the grocery stores and around town. She also spent some time working at Cal's Cafe. In 1977 she met the love of her life, Ernesto Lopez, and they continued to build a life together residing in and near Erick, Oklahoma. Nelta enjoyed farm work where they raised wheat, milked cows, raising chickens for eggs, and caring for her donkeys, horses and other animals.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Ricky Marshall; 6 siblings, Leon, Willie, Dowayne, and Dale Crook, Juanita Campbell and Oleta Marshbanks.
Nelta is survived by her husband, Ernesto, of the home; son, Randy Marshall, Sayre, OK; 1 granddaughter, Breanna Marshall and companion, David Miller, Sayre, OK; great grandchildren, Phoenix and Raelynn Miller, both of Sayre, OK; special niece, Linda Rhoades and husband, Clinton, Missouri; special friend LaDonna Broddrick, Sayre, OK and numerous nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Good Shepherd Hospice, Angels Care, Comforting Hands Hospice, DaVita Dialysis Center, and Life Spring Hospice.
