Ike Liddell

April 29, 1933 ~ September 23, 2014

Services for Ike Liddell, 81, of Gladewater, Texas were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 27 at the First Baptist Church of Gladewater.

Born a Chickasaw Native American on April 29, 1933 at Thackerville, the youngest of 11 siblings and the son of D.V. and Minnie Liddell, he died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Good Shephard Medical Center in Longview, Texas after a lengthy illness.

Ike moved to Gladewater in 1951 and met Bettie Reynolds, and as he would like to say, by just “whistling at her and making her fall in love with him.” They married in 1955 and went on to have two caring sons, Mark and Lane.

He was a successful home builder for 45 years, building many homes all across the east Texas area. He enjoyed spending every Fourth of July weekend in Thackerville with all of his family. Ike was a man of the Lord and devoted himself dearly to the church and his family. He was a deacon, as well as a Boy Scout leader for many young men in the city of Gladewater.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie; two sons, Mark and wife, Anna of Henderson, Texas and Lane of Gladewater; two grandchildren, Stephanie of Henderson and Ty of Austin, Texas and two sisters, Betty Gallaway of Thackerville and Jeanne Cockran of Houston.

Serving as pallbearers were Chris Reynolds, Tom Whitherspoon, Randy Liddell, Brian Liddell, Glenn Gallaway and Keel Liddell. Honorary bearers deacons of the First Baptist Church of Gladewater.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gladewater, P.O. Box 1444, Gladewater, TX 75647.
