Larry Lavicky
Feb. 21, 1948 ~ June 18, 2014

ENID, OK - Celebration of Life for Larry Lavicky, 66, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at United Methodist Church, Pond Creek. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.

Larry was born Feb. 21, 1948, in Enid, Okla., and passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in Enid.

Larry graduated from Pond Creek High School with the class of 1966 Bearcats, and OSU Okmulgee with a degree in diesel mechanics.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 59th Land Clearing Company in Vietnam from 1969 until 1971, where he was awarded numerous medals.

He always flew the American flag on his combine during harvest. He was a proud veteran.

Larry married Linda Gillig on July 6, 1974, at First Methodist Church in Kiowa, Kan. They lived in Pond Creek, where Larry farmed and Linda taught school. They celebrated the birth of their brown-eyed daughter, Amy Lynn, the pride of Larry's life.

Larry later worked at Cummins Construction as a welder, which he enjoyed for 27 years before retiring due to multiple sclerosis.

Larry loved high school and college sports as both a participant and spectator. Basketball, football and baseball were his favorites.

He was an avid fan of the Pond Creek Bearcats, Pond Creek High School Panthers and OSU Cowboys. He was known for his encouraging words and enthusiasm to the players on the team.

Larry never tired of fishing for the "big one" or the "one that always got away." He liked to hunt pheasant, deer, geese, rabbits and turkeys. He loved being outdoors in the early morning, sharing a cup of coffee and sports trivia with his friends.

Larry always had a smile for others. A quick wit, an unselfish personality and an intense loyalty to his friends attracted people. He will be remembered as a loving husband, daddy and friend.

Old country, bluegrass and gospel music was a passion of Larry's. He loved to listen to George Jones, Loretta Lynn and other Grand Ole Opry performers who didn't have to be stars, but just enjoyed what they did.

He had a big collection of vinyl records, eight-tracks, cassettes and CDs, which he treasured. Larry instilled this passion to his daughter, Amy. Playing the harmonica was a hobby he enjoyed.

The Sound of Music was his favorite movie. Edelweiss and the Notre Dame Fight Song always brought a tear to his eye.

English was one of Larrys favorite subjects in school. He credited Mrs. Foley at Pond Creek High School for his ability to spell, diagram sentences and conjugate verbs, etc.

The girls at Okmulgee were always upset that Larry consistently scored the highest grades.

Larry enjoyed attending livestock auctions or contests. Listening to the auctioneers cry their chant on RFD or CDs filled endless hours. He was pretty good at this himself.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Jane Kraus.

Larry is survived by his wife, Linda of Pond Creek; daughter, Amy of Stillwater; sister, Margaret; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Pond Creek.

Burial and a full military graveside service will be held following the Celebration of Life at Riverview Cemetery in Kiowa, Kan.

Memorials can be given through the funeral home to United Methodist Church or Pond Creek Firemans Fund.

Larry left this message to his friends. "I've had a good life, but now it's time to pull a "Hank Snow" ! I'm moving on! Git-R-Done! Love to all, Larry.
