Martha Ann (Myers) Latham
December 26, 1937 ~ August 23, 2019

Martha “Ann” (Myers) Latham, 81, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019 at her home in Durant, Oklahoma. She was born on December 26, 1937 in Buffalo, TX to Oliver Wesley Myers Jr. and Alma Eugenia (Saylor) Myers.

She graduated from Granbury High School in Granbury, TX, then attended North Texas University and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Ann married James Harris Latham on December 22, 1957. They lived in Germany for a year, where James was stationed in the army, and some of their most cherished memories were made there. They moved to Bryan Co., Okla. in 1959 so that James could start his career teaching at Southeastern. Their 3 children were born in Durant in 1959, 1963, and 1966. Ann was a stay at home mother until the youngest child started school. She was then able to complete her bachelors degree and 2 masters degrees (Library Science and History). She was the Catalog Librarian at Southeastern and taught Library Science before retiring from there in the late 90’s. She was a member of the American Library Association, Faculty Dames, Fortnightly, and the P.E.O. She was also a member of the Durant Church of Christ for over 60 years. Ann enjoyed reading, cooking/baking, cake decorating, and traveling.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Thomas W. Myers, and son James Jeffrey “Jeff” Latham and in-laws Harris Austin and Pauline Latham.

Ann is survived by her husband, James Latham of the home, two daughters, Lori Lynn Latham and Dana Kay Latham both of Durant, granddaughter Loryn Wesley Pierce of Dallas, TX, three grandsons, Nathan Paul Pierce and wife Cici of Dallas, TX, Justin Garrett Latham of Ada, OK, and Aaron Reis Salazar Latham of Durant, great granddaughter Aria Lynn Yates, and great grandson George Ashton Pierce both of Dallas, TX., sister Carolyn Mae and husband Thomas V. Gillen of Grand Prairie, TX and brother Colonel Gene Oliver “Rusty” Myers of Shreveport, LA; sister-in-law Nonnie Lee and husband Jack D. Young of Lakewood, CO as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She will be lovingly remembered for her culinary and baking skills and service to others.

The family would like to thank their church family, neighbors, and friends for all of their loving care to Ann over the years. A special thanks also to caregiver Tammy Avery and to the staff of Guardian Hospice of Oklahoma for comfort care in her final days.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel in Durant.

In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to the Pettijohn Springs Christian Camp
