Ron Arthur Langley

Ron Arthur Langley
October 07, 1940 ~ August 30, 2019

Ronald Arthur Langley was born October 7, 1940, in Shreveport, LA, to Arthur and Ailyne (Heim) Langley. Ron passed away Friday, August 30, 2019 in Oklahoma City, OK.

Ron attended school in Shreveport, LA and in Bossier City, LA, where he graduated from high school in 1958. He was an active Boy Scout and helped his dad in his sheet metal shop. Ron graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. In March of 1981, Ron met Donna Fillmore, the love of his life, at a friend’s party, and the couple married three months later and made their home in Guthrie.

In 1963, Ron began his work career at Tinker Air Force Base, where he was an aerospace engineer working on several jet engines, including the TF 33 and TF 41. During this time, he completed his Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. He won several awards, such as “Monitor of the Quarter” as a part of a team that worked out a process which saved the federal government over 38 million dollars. Langley was first engineer to run the Accelerated Missions Test on the A-7 aircraft engine that accumulated operations hours twice as fast as normal. Running the AMT at Tinker saved the government $800,000. Ron was also a pioneer in developing special repair processes, including metal spray repairs. In addition, he participated in many military aircraft jet engine accident and incident investigations. After 40 years of service, Ron retired from Tinker in 2003.

In his spare time, Ron enjoyed biking and running marathons. He taught spin classes at several gyms. He loved to sail his Hobie on Lake Hefner. He was a Boy Scout leader of Guthrie Troop 850 and served on several committees at the First Methodist Church, Guthrie. A quiet man, Ron was an avid reader of military history, focusing on the Civil War and WWII. He loved his two cats, Chivas and Zoe.

He is survived by his wife Donna of the home; his brother, Barry Langley and wife, Joyce of Mobile, AL; his son Aaron and grandson Geovanni, of Guthrie; his son Ronnie, of Guthrie, and grandchildren: Chase and wife Erin, of McKinney, TX; Kaleb and wife Shelby, of Guthrie; Kimari Ranney and husband Rockford, of Yukon; and eight great-grandchildren: Landon, Jake, Nolan, Kaycen, Bostyn, Perry, Brynlee, and Emma Jo; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 5, at 2:00 PM at the First Methodist Church 224 E. Noble Ave., Guthrie, under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Methodist Church, 224 E. Noble Ave, Guthrie, OK 73044 or the Guthrie Animal Shelter, 415 W. Commerce, Guthrie, OK 73044.
