Cindy Lou (Benac) Koopman

Cindy Lou (Benac) Koopman
December 18, 1952 ~ February 25, 2017

Cindy Lou Koopman passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at her home in Ponca City, Oklahoma, after a lengthy struggle with cancer. She was 64 years old.

Cindy was born in Newton, Iowa on December 18, 1952 to her parents, Marion and Mary (Bakalar) Benac.

She married Chuck Koopman on June 26th, 1988 in Newton, Iowa.

Cindy worked as a manager of instrument sterilization at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Iowa for over 30 years. After retirement, she and her husband moved to Ponca City in 2008. They quickly found a home at First Lutheran Church where Cindy held leadership roles in the Ladies Guild and LWML, as well as participating in Care Ministries, the Peanut Butter and Jelly Brigade for Friendship Feast and The Mission, several Bible Study groups, and sang in the choir. Cindy Lou was a natural born leader and used her skills to help organize church functions including the annual Valentine's Day Luncheon. Physical fitness was important to her as she had a personal trainer and worked out often to stay in shape.

She is preceded in death by her mother, several aunts and uncles.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Chuck, of Ponca City, sons, Joshua Lepley of Grinell, Iowa, and Jim Koopman of Ames, Iowa; her father Marion Benac of Newton, Iowa; sisters Jane Chaplin of Livingston, Texas; Loretta Tool of Newton, Iowa; and Tina Frein of, Burchnell, Iowa.

A memorial service honoring Cindy's life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church.

Cindy was one of those people you meet once in a lifetime; she always made time for others, never complained, and always had a smile on her face.

Cindy's final request was to go home, and she is home now in the loving arms of Jesus. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be contributed to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123, or www.cancer.org . She is clothed in strength & dignity & laughs without fear of the future. Proverbs 31:25
