Freida Kay (Dawkins) Kendrick

Freida Kay (Dawkins) Kendrick
April 2, 1953 ~ January 21, 2021

Freida Kay Kendrick, Age 67, of Midwest City, OK, passed away suddenly on January 21st, 2021 surrounded by loved ones, after a battle with COVID-19. She wasn’t ready to leave this world (too many hugs yet to give her grandkids), but knew as a follower of Jesus that she would be reunited with her family in Eternity.

Kay was born in Oklahoma City on April 2nd, 1953 to Homer Warfield and Freida LaVerne Dawkins. She graduated from Star Spencer High School in 1971, and later studied Computer Science at Oklahoma City Community College.

While attending Star Spencer High School, she met and soon married her husband, Ken Kendrick. Ken and Kay had three children, Michael, Kenny, and Bennie.

Kay was the best wife, Mom, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, Grandma, and daughter. She loved well, listened intently, and was always ready to help a family member or friend in need. She fought through so many health problems over the years, but kept living and loving. She was an avid reader and former computer programmer. She loved deep, meaningful conversation, but disliked large groups or being the center of attention. She cared for her family deeply, looked forward to family gatherings, and her grandchildren were her great joy and medicine for her soul.

Kay was preceded in death by her father, Homer Dawkins, and her son Michael Kendrick. She is survived by her mother, Freida LaVerne Dawkins, her brother, Gerald Dawkins, her sisters, Cathy Newville and husband Ron, Brenda Dawkins, Nancy Boyd and husband Glenn, Patsy Maloney and husband Mike, her husband Ken, her sons, Kenny Kendrick and wife Julie, Bennie Kendrick and wife Jamie, her grandchildren, Sarah Kendrick, Ian Kendrick, Seth Kendrick, and Declan Kendrick, as well as a host of much-loved extended family, in-laws, and friends.
