Mark Andrew Kaplan
May 11, 1949 ~ May 31, 2016 (age 67)

Mark Kaplan, 67, of Norman, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016. He was born May 11, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York, to Lawrence and Betty (Zakowitz) Kaplan.

Mark grew up in Charleston, W VA. After W VA he moved to Oklahoma to attend Oklahoma Christian University and graduated in 1971 with a degree in Theatre. He appeared in several productions with Lyric Theater, most notably in the lead role of Fiddler on the Roof.

He owned two Oklahoma City restaurants, Chez Ami and A Midi, with partner Tupper Patnode. Chez Ami was featured in Bon Appetit magazine.

After living away for several years he returned to Tulsa, while there he was honored to serve as president of the Interfaith Alliance.

Upon his marriage to Shirley in 1999 he moved to Norman and retired from Clear Channel Radio in 2013. He went on to be adjunct professor of communication in business at OU.

Mark is survived by his wife Shirley and their grandchildren Andrew and Colin Marang, and the many friends he enjoyed during his lifetime.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in memory of Mark to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at aspca.co
