Edna Earle Johnson-Sherrell
March 28, 1919 ~ January 2, 2013

Edna Earle Johnson Sherrell, born in Green Forest, AR on March 28, 1919, died January 2, 2013 in Midwest City, Ok, after a short illness.

Edna played forward for the Rogers, AR High School girls" basketball team. She was crowned football queen her senior year.

She married her high-school sweetheart, Jesse Maurice Sherrell in Rogers on July 19, 1940. In 1941, Jess was called from reserve to active duty, and Edna became an Air Force wife. They were stationed in San Antonio, TX, Ft. Lauderdale and Sebring, FL, Ft. Knox, KY, Biloxi, MS, Dayton, OH, Wheeler AFB, HI and finally Tinker AFB, OK where they settled with their three children.

Edna worked for the phone company for ten years, in Rogers, AR and San Antonio, TX. She also worked for the Hoytuck Corp. in Midwest City as bookkeeper for 15 years. She retired in 1982 to care for Jess after he had a stroke. She volunteered at VA Hospital, Tinker AFB Hospital and St. Matthew United Methodist Church. She was a devoted sports fan and a staunch supporter of her grandsons and great-grandchildren in all their chosen sports from grade school through college.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Clayton and Adra Evelyn Skaggs Johnson, sisters Margaret Perry and Lucy Standridge, brother Tom Johnson, beloved husband Jess, and son-in-law David Bain.

She is survived by sister Barbara Clement of Austin, Tx, son Jesse Sherrell (Jo"l) of New Orleans, LA, daughters Adra Ann Bain of Midwest City, OK and Libby Morgan (Mike) of Edmond, OK, grandsons Joel Bain (Megan) of MWC, OK, and Jesse Bain (fianc"e Courtney Cox) of Broken Arrow, OK, great-grandchildren Emma, Conner and Claire Bain of MWC, OK, and numerous nephews, nieces and their progeny.

In her 93 years, Edna loved and was loved by many, saw and believed the best in everyone, never said a bad word about anyone, and led by shining example. She graciously accepted whatever life tossed her way.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 300 N. Air Depot Blvd, Midwest City, OK.
