Ralph Elwood Johnson
May 12, 1930 ~ Feb 23, 2015

SMSgt Ralph Elwood Johnson (Ret), 84, went home to his Father on February 23, 2015.

Ralph was born May 12, 1930, in Detroit MI and spent his early years living in Battle Creek and Leonidas MI. In 1948 he graduated from Colon High School in Michigan and married his high school sweetheart Miriam Rae Farrand.

Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, becoming an air traffic controller and embarking on a 26-year career of military service. With assignments to the 1st MOB, Clark AB Philippines, 2nd MOB Toul-Rosieres AB France and later Moron AB Spain, and the 3rd MOB Tinker AFB OK, he traveled all over the world setting up mobile communications facilities. He also served two tours in Korea. Later in his military career, he was assigned to the Southern Communications Area near Tinker AFB and traveled as part of an inspection team for Flight Facilities.

After serving four years at Ramstein AB Germany, he decided to retire from the Air Force and continue his education at Oklahoma City University receiving a BS in Business in 1980 and a Master’s in Business Administration in 1981. Before retiring fully, he was an air traffic controller in the tower at Max Westheimer Field for several years. He was a seasoned traveler who loved to collect items such as coins, sport cards and stamps. He placed his family first in his life and was happiest when they were all together. His career choice gave his entire family the opportunity to travel and live in many states and countries. Three words that sum up his life are “Be your best”.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents Sydney and Mamie Johnson and son-in-law Gary Lee Miller.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Miriam Johnson, children: Brian Johnson, Walter Johnson, Kimberly Cornet & husband Jimmy, all of Norman and Vicki Miller, Moore. In addition he leaves grandsons Ford Wattles, Tyler Johnson, Bryce Cornet and Khayl Johnson, and great-granddaughter Samantha Wattles.
