Walt O. Johns of Colorado Springs, Colorado

On December 15, 2022, Walter Johns of Colorado Springs, Colorado died at his home at the age of 77.

Walter was born to Orval and Opal (Bumgardner) Johns on December 11, 1945, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. At an early age, his family relocated to Blackwell. Oklahoma where he graduated from Blackwell with the class of 1964. He continued his education at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, and graduated from Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in business. This is also where he met his wife Nancy D. (Proctor) Johns and were married in May of 1967. They went on to have three children. Walter and his family lived in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he was employed by Phillips 66 until he took early retirement. He then returned to Blackwell where he was employed by Cupid and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation until his retirement. After retirement, he remained in Blackwell, Oklahoma until moving to Houston, Texas, and finally Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Walter was an avid bowler who shared his love of the sport with others, especially the youth as he was a loved youth league coach. He had many friends with whom he traveled all over the United States to participate in the sport. He also enjoyed square dancing with his wife, Nancy. They were very active in their local square dance associations. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his big heart. He was always there to help someone out no matter what.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Opal Johns.

He is survived by wife, Nancy; three children, Shannon, Justine (Sean) Cranford, and Arthur; grandchildren, Kelsey, Nichelle (Jesse), Jaron (Lindsey), James, Dontae (Tiffanie), Octavius, Candence, Walter; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday, December 22, 2022, in the chapel at Roberts and Son Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m.
