Richard Myron Jantz

September 08, 1933 ~ September 28, 2017

Funeral Services for Richard Myron Jantz, 84, will be 10:30am, Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Fairview, Oklahoma. Arrangements by Fairview Funeral Home Inc..

Our Daddy and Grandpa, Richard Myron Jantz was born to Dan and Elizabeth Ratzlaff Jantz on September 8,1933 in McPherson County Kansas, and joined Mom in Heaven on September 28th' 2017. Richard attended different local schools in his youth. He received his eighth grade diploma from Butler County Public School. He gave his heart to Jesus as a youth, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. His faith was very important to him, and in his quiet way he followed his conviction. He expressed his assurance of peace with God to his family.

He was married to Agnes Nightingale on March 9, 1958 at Fairview, Oklahoma. They lived in Newton, Kansas the first year. He worked at a mobile home factory.  They then moved to Oklahoma, working for 40 years for Edsel Cornelson on a cattle ranch five miles west of Cleo Springs. He was particular with his work.

His fences were perfectly straight, and the gates were so tight only he could close them. He tended cattle with horses, graduating to 3 and 4 wheelers. Haying was a dusty summer job. As children, we have many fond memories of picnics with family and friends, and youth gatherings. Daddy was a quiet stable presence in our lives.

Dad and Mom moved off the ranch in August of 1998, and three years later had the pleasure of moving into their own home at 103 Triumph in Fairview. Watching and feeding birds was a favorite pastime. Daddy worked at Martens Manufacturing for 10 years after his retirement from the ranch, making parts for harrows. It was a job he thoroughly enjoyed. A very difficult time in our parents life was when our brother Mark was killed in an accident, and when their granddaughter Betsy was taken in a tragic accident at age 18.

Due to moms failing health, they moved to the Fairview Fellowship Home in February of 2015, and she passed away in July of that year. Her death was difficult for him, but he quietly lived each day. We as family, learned to know another side of him. He would often tell us he loved us, and was interested in what was happening with his children and grandchildren. When we visited him, he often had an open Bible on his lap.

Those left to treasure fond memories are his daughters Gayla and husband Rendel of Okeene, Oklahoma, Heidi and husband Brendon Schmidt of Texline, Texas, and one daughter in law, Millie Jantz of Ringwood, Oklahoma. There are eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He is survived by sisters Neoma Koehn in Moundridge, Kansas, and Margie in Newton, Kansas, one sister in law Fern Jantz of Montezuma, Kansas, and special family friend Lena Marie Koehn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, His loving wife Agnes, Son Mark, and Granddaughter Betsy, brother Vernon, and one infant brother.
