Julia (Provost) Jacobson

Feb. 22, 1944 ~ Nov. 1, 2008

Julia Jacobson, 64, of the Perkins/Stillwater area, lost her long battle with cancer on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in Eden Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Bredesen officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Julia was born Feb. 22, 1944, in Holdenville, to Inez Melinda (Benham) Provost and the late Joseph Theodore Provost Sr. In 1955, the family moved from Enid to Gallup, N.M., where she graduated from high school. She returned to Oklahoma and attended East Central State College in Ada. She married Owen Higgins Rives III, of Holdenville, and they had one child, Sharon Melinda. They later divorced and she rejoined her family in the Southwest.

In 1971, she and Victor Gary Pedro, a member of the Laguna Tribe, were married and they had a daughter, Juliette Marie. Julia was an American Indian of Omaha/Creek descent and was enrolled with the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska.

Julia had a long career with the U.S. Government and worked in Washington, D.C., Zuni, N.M. and retired as the administrative officer of the Pawnee Agency in Pawnee.

She enjoyed her retirement with her grandchildren and traveling, making South Padre Island, Texas, her favorite destination.

She was a member of the Eden Chapel United Methodist Church in Perkins.

She was preceded in death by her father and one grandson, Jonah Rives Garner.

She is survived by her mother, Inez; daughters, Melinda Garner and her husband, Peter, of Perkins/Stillwater area and Juliette Pedro of the home; two grandchildren, Aubrey and Levi Garner; sister, M. Sharon Blackwell of Alexandria, Va.; brother, Joseph Theodore Provost Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M.; three nephews and one niece. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
