Helen Carol (Findley) Hixon

January 1, 1938 ~ April 24, 2016

Helen Carol Hixon, age 78, a resident of rural Ft. Scott, Kansas, died Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the Medicalodge of Ft. Scott.

She was born January 1, 1938, in Parsons, Kansas, the daughter of Eldon Findley and Ula Carr Findley.

Helen graduated from the Ft. Scott High School with the Class of 1955.

She married Richard L. Hixon on June 10, 1956, at Ft. Scott.

In earlier years, Helen had worked in the offices of the Western Insurance Company, Southwestern Bell Telephone and the R. C. Smith Insurance Agency. She later began a career with the Bourbon County SRS Office and retired from there after thirty years of service.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She assisted her children with their 4-H projects. She also liked to sew and was known for making Christmas socks and Christmas tree skirts. She enjoyed reading and traveling to the Rocky Mountains. She also had a fondness for horses. Helen was a charter member of the Community Christian Church and enjoyed the time spent with her ladies Bible study group.

Survivors include her husband, Richard, of the home; her three children, Steven Hixon and wife, Kathy, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Mark R. Hixon and wife, Rochelle, of Ft. Scott and Dianne Carpenter and husband, Jim, of Overland Park, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Julie Rankin and husband, Erick, Stephanie Hixon, Matthew Hixon, Heather Bradley and husband, Nathan, Brian Richard Hixon, and wife, Cortney, Crystal Haro and husband, Jamin, Mark Feagins, Adrian Carpenter, Arianna Carpenter and Jayden Carpenter; five great-grandchildren Lilianna and Jasper Bradley, Melea and Esau Hixon and Macy Haro. Also surviving are two brothers, Donald Findley and wife, Sarrah, of Grove, Oklahoma and Robert Findley and wife, Linda of Ft. Scott; two sisters, Janice Camp and husband, Rollin, of Hesston, Kansas and Rita Findley of Appleton, Wisconsin; two sisters-in-law, Connie and Joyce Findley of Ft. Scott and a brother-in-law, Dwayne Query, of Rochelle Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Floyd Findley; and three sisters, Jenelle Findley, who died in infancy, Rosmarie Findley, and Doris Query.Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct funeral services at 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 29th at the Community Christian Church.

Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Community Christian Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701.
