Simpson Grayson Hill, Jr.

Simpson Grayson Hill, Jr.
November 25, 1946 ~ March 28, 2013

Simpson Grayson Hill, Jr., 66, of Norman went to be with the Lord March 28, 2013 following complications suffered from a stroke. He was born November 25, 1946 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Simpson Grayson, Sr. and Elizabeth (McCombs) Hill.

Simpson overcame great difficulty of getting sick at the early age of one, thus shortening his left leg about five inches. He did not let this disability keep him down. After watching his sister, two years his junior learn to walk, he pulled himself up on the living room drapes and away he went for the remainder of his life. Simpson played baseball and softball well into his 30's. He coached little league baseball, football and basketball not only for their own sons but for many others prior to their birth. He was a brilliant man and his knowledge of the Bible was unmatched. In 1965 he graduated from Tulsa Central and then later earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University. Soon after he married Brenda L. Stevens of Hugo in 1973, from union came two sons Scott and Phillip. He often encouraged his boys to be who they wanted, not what someone else thought they should be. One of Simpson's favorite things to do was to turn off the television and have "music night" which consisted of a huge stack of 45's from the 1960's. After his divorce in 1994, Simpson returned to Tulsa briefly to help take care of his dying father. Following his father's passing, he and his mother returned to Norman to be closer to family. Simpson was living at Hillcrest Nursing Home at the time of his stroke.

Simpson was preceded in death by his parents, Simpson, Sr. and Elizabeth Hill.

Simpson is survived by his two sons, Scott Hill of Norman, Oklahoma and Phillip Hill of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in The Chapel of the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman. The Hill family will greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home. Arrangements for Simpson and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
