Donald Eugene "Don" Hill

Donald Eugene "Don" Hill
February 9, 1947 ~ September 2, 2025

Donald Eugene Hill, 78, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on February 9, 1947, in Steubenville, Ohio, at Ohio Valley Hospital to Merle Gene and Yolanda Antoinette Hill. During the late 50s the Hills moved from Ohio to Weirton, West Virginia where Don grew up serving as an altar boy at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and graduating from Madonna High School in 1966. Those who knew him and his twin brother well often heard stories about “those Hill boys” and the antics that sometimes brought the police to visit his parents - stories told with laughter and fondness.

Don met the love of his life, Yun Ki “Min”, during one of his tours in Korea in 1988, and they were married on October 4, 1989. Together they built a life full of family, love, and devotion, lasting through moves, military service, and the many adventures life brought their way.

Don dedicated 22 years to the United States Army, entering in right after high school serving as a 92A Army E7, Sergeant First Class, Automated Logistical Specialist. His career included two tours in Vietnam, four tours in Korea, and one tour in Desert Storm-Desert Shield. He served with the 304th Maintenance Company as both a Training NCO and later as a Commissary NCOIC in South Korea, finishing his career in South Korea. Among his many accomplishments were numerous commendations, including several Army Commendation Medals, The Commanding General’s Certificate of Recognition, The Army Achievement Medal, and the prestigious Bronze Star Medal for his exemplary service and dedication.

Between tours, Don worked as a firefighter in Weirton, at Weirton Steel, and for Mohawk Airlines, always finding ways to serve his community.

In addition to his military accomplishments, Don continued his education through various technical schools, earning multiple certifications as well as a certificate from West Virginia University, further expanding his skills and knowledge.

After retiring, Don kept busy with a few odd jobs but what he loved most was spending time with his family and friends. Whether sharing a meal, telling stories, or cracking jokes for a good laugh, those moments brought him, and those around him, his greatest joy.

Don loved cars, especially his Rebel Machine, and spent countless hours bowling, with his highest game reaching an incredible 299. He was also an avid football fan, whether it was college or the NFL. He loved cheering for the Washington Commanders, West Virginia University, and Oklahoma State University. He was always keeping up with the latest scores, no matter the game. Talking football was one of his favorite pastimes, and he never missed a chance to discuss a game with anyone who would listen.

Don had a passion for singing and performing, whether in a band at weddings or belting out his favorite karaoke songs. He loved to dance, to laugh, and to make those around him smile. He was known to strum on a guitar, although the family joked that he only knew one song, a fact confirmed when his brother played it for them years later, and everyone recognized it immediately! Music, joy, and laughter were constant companions in his life.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Yun Ki “Min” Hill of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his daughter Kimberly (Aaron) Hill-Crowell of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his grandchildren Ayden McDaniel, Kayleigh Crowell, and Wyatt Crowell, all of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Taylor (Sam) Jones of Magnolia, Arkansas.

He is also survived by his siblings Doug (Sharon) Hill of Chester, West Virginia, Mark (Cindie) Hill of Weirton, West Virginia, and Mary Ann (Bryan) Holloway of Weirton, West Virginia; his sister-in-law Evelyn Hill, wife of his late brother Ronald Hill; and his brother-in-law Gary Masters, husband of his late sister Merle Jean “Jeannie” Masters; along with numerous nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle Gene and Yolanda Hill; his brother Ronald Hill; his sister Merle Jean “Jeannie” Masters; and his son Derek Hill.
