Bettye Mae (Turk) Hiebert

 Bettye Mae (Turk) Hiebert, 90, passed away Dec. 1, 2022, at her home in Halstead, Kan.

She was born Jan. 27, 1932, in Lacey to Archie and Nannie Maye (Bryant) Turk.

She graduated from Loyal High School in 1950, then attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, Kan.

On April 15, 1961, Bettye married Ervin Hiebert of Newton, Kan., and had an enduring marriage of 52 years before he preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2013.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aka “Grammy,” great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend to all she knew.

She worked as a secretary at Prestressed Concrete, Inc. in Newton, Kan. Later she enjoyed a career selling Avon products as the neighborhood “Avon Lady” that lasted over 30 years.

Bettye enjoyed bowling, gardening, crocheting, and crafting.

Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter were the joy of her life, attending as many sporting events as she could.

Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather John Jared, her brothers Robert Turk and Bill Turk, and her sister Alice Massey.

Bettye is survived by children Wanda Green of Halstead, and Marilyn Wendling and husband William of Halstead; four grandchildren, Jennifer Maxwell and husband Creighton of Burrton, Joanne Miller and husband Brian of Hutchinson, Jeff Wendling and wife Tyffany of Newton, and Nicholas Green of Corpus Christi, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Tyler Maxwell and wife Michaela and their daughter Addison of Bel Aire, Jenna Carr and husband Alexander of Valley Center, Alix and Karsin Miller of Topeka, Brody and Arlie Wendling of Newton.

Memorials may be given to the Halstead Historical Society or the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Kaufman Funeral Home.

Per her request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held later.
