Darrel Eugene Hamrick

Darrel Eugene Hamrick
November 15, 1936 ~ December 5, 2019

Darrel Eugene Hamrick, 83 of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away on December 5, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Trout Funeral Home Chapel. The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Trout Funeral Home.

Darrel was born on November 15, 1936, in Cushing, OK, to Eldridge and Eunice (Gates) Hamrick. He attended schools in Ponca City, Kansas and other towns in Oklahoma. Darrel married Carol Glasgow on August 31, 1956 in Ponca City.

Darrel was a board member for the McCord Senior Center and was one of the original founders of the McCord Rural Water District. He enjoyed having coffee with his buddies. After coffee, Darrel would walk, then go to the casino. Later, he and Carol would go to the Senior Center for lunch and to visit as part of his regular routine. He worked for Nickles Machine Shop for over 16 years, starting in 1955, and is still friends with many of his co-workers.

Darrel's life was his family, his trucking business, farming and ranching. He was a hard worker, often times rising early to tend to his cattle. His two sons also worked on the family ranch. Darrel loved all animals, especially his dogs and cats.

Darrel's work and hobby was his semi-trucks. In 1962, he bought his first truck and owned several through the years. In 1980, he and Carol flew to Toronto, Canada, to drive his brand new, green Peterbuilt back to Oklahoma. Darrel made many friends hauling wheat for local farmers to the Port of Catoosa and delivering gravel back to the area through the trucking business.

His and Carol's love of travel carried over into their family vacations, RVing across the country. They enjoyed taking the grandchildren and their friends on trips in the RV to local State Parks and camp grounds. Darrel and Carol traveled from coast to coast and to South Texas

He is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; sons, Brett Hamrick of Ponca City, OK, Kevin Hamrick and his wife, Becky of Ponca City, OK; grandchildren, Darci Baker and her husband, Brandon of Wetharford, OK, Mindy Buckley and her husband, Ray, of Weatherford, OK, Ryan Hamrick and his wife, Kelli of Ponca City, OK, Blake Hemrick and his wife, Meredith of Oklahoma City, OK, Jamie Belt and her husband, Tyler of Piedemont, OK; great-grandchildren, Sage Baker, Violet Baker, Barrett Belt and expecting one more in the Spring. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the McCord Senior Center, 115 E Mary Rd, Ponca City, OK 74604. The family would life for you to leave memories of Darrel at www.troutfuneralhome.com.
