Michael Duane Gray, 59 of Madill, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He was born on February 14, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, to Willie Dean Gray and Helen Jean Chalk Gray.
Mike was raised in Durant, Oklahoma and graduated from Durant High School in 1984. During his time at DHS, Mike was a member of the band and golf team and was awarded a scholarship to play golf at SOSU.
Mike met Linda Gail Robertson the old fashioned way…in a bar where he was the drummer in the band. His band played the song “Linda, do you want to dance” to win her over and the two tied the knot on August 26, 1989 in Madill.
Mike worked for Peterbilt in Denton, Texas for 30 years. He worked all throughout the plant and could build a truck from the rails to the road before retiring as a liaison engineer.
He was a member of the Ardmore Masonic Lodge and the First Methodist Church in Madill. Mike was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed playing in the Masonic tournament every year with a stacked team of the finest golfers in the family. Each year Mike looked forward to the annual Chalk family reunion. A weekend full of good food, huge laughs, and great company.
Mike loved anything that went fast, whether it was NASCAR, ATVs, R/C racing with Cam, or trying to sling some brave soul off of the tube behind his boat. Mike was passionate about music. Besides being the thing that brought Mike and Linda together, it was a connection he shared with his children. He taught Cam to play the drums and taught Maddie to appreciate classic rock. Mike was so proud to be Coyote to “the prettiest baby he ever saw,” Penny. He loved to read to Penny and play with her. He even loved wiping her finger prints off of his sunglasses. Mike loved his family, friends, pets, and the kids’ friends fiercely. His heart and his home were open to anyone the kids brought to the house, and once you were in he treated you like one of his own, whether that meant a suffocating hug or absolutely lining you out.
In honor of Mike please smother something in Head Country BBQ sauce, crack open a Diet Coke, turn your speakers all the way up and put the pedal to the metal.
