Billy Gene "Bill" Glenn
April 8, 1933 ~ August 9, 2015

Billy "Bill" Gene Glenn, of Calera, Oklahoma, passed from this life in Sherman, Texas, on August 9, 2015, at the age of 82. He was born in Silo on April 8, 1933, to Earl Robert and Lillie Violet (Blankenship) Glenn. Bill lived all his life in Bryan County.

He married Dorothy Jo Lee on March 28 , 1952, in Durant, and they celebrated 63 years together this year. Bill worked at many things during his life including cabinet making, carpentry, and farming; finally retiring in 1999.

Bill and Dorothy loved to go camping and listening to bluegrass music. They made many friends through their trips. In the late 70's and 80's, he was an active member in the CB club where many life-time friends and memories were made. Bill enjoyed playing the guitar and mandolin and in later years, the tub.

Many family get-togethers included some picken' and grinnin'. Bill's favorite time of year was Easter and the annual family Easter egg hunt at Silo. Young and old learned to watch their baskets when hunting eggs with Uncle Bill.

A craftsman at heart, Bill was always working on a project while tinkering in his shop. Many were blessed with his is wood crafts and other "creations." Once he retired, you could always find him out under his shade tree drinking coffee. He loved watching his birds and waging war on gophers.

Bill was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Durant and was active in the Adult 3 Sunday School department. He served as an usher until he was unable to do so due to his declining health.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; daughter, Debra Luke and husband Eddie of Calera; grandson, Lance Luke and wife Kristie of Calera; granddaughter, Stephanie Williams and husband Nathan of Calera; great-grandchildren Maddison Williams, Sydney Williams, Evan Luke and Kelsey Luke, all of Calera; sister, Lura Peoples of Silo; sister-in-law, Margie Glenn of Calera; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Earl and Lillie Glenn; brothers, Robert and Wilburn Glenn; and sisters, Virginia Slaten and Eva Lee Hider.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 6-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant.

A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 12, at Calvary Baptist Church, Durant, with Bro. Darel Bunch officiating. Pallbearers will be Dewayne Slaten, Ronnie Slaten, Steven Glenn, Darwin Atwood, Donald Robinson, Larry Proctor, J.D. Harlin, Neal Hider and Randall Robinson.

Dorothy Jo (Lee) Glenn
February 7, 1936 ~ April 15, 2023

On April 15, 2023, Dorothy Jo (Lee) Glenn left this world surrounded by family singing her favorite hymns. She fought many years struggling with numerous broken bones, surgeries, and failing health. Heaven rejoiced as she joined the picking and grinning that was waiting to welcome her.

Dorothy was best known for being a master seamstress and crafter. She loved creating. Anytime you were at her home, she had a sewing project going, something cooking on the stove, and bluegrass music playing. She was an instructor at Levi Strauss company until the factory closed in 1984. She made beautiful wedding gowns, prom gowns, costumes, and a multitude of Christmas tree skirts, blankets, and other items too numerous to count.

Dorothy married her high school sweetheart Bill in 1952. They began a family and enjoyed a lifetime together of 63 years.

She was a preacher’s daughter, member of the Calvary Baptist Church, and faithful believer. She dearly loved spending time with her family, friends, and church family. In 2021 she welcomed her puppy, Noah. He brought her the greatest joy in the last few years of her life.

She is survived by daughter Debra Luke and husband Eddie of Calera. Grandchildren Lance Luke and wife Kristie of Calera, granddaughter Stephanie Luke of Calera. Great-grandchildren Maddison Williams, Evan Luke, Sydney Williams, and Kelsey Luke all of Calera and sister, Glenda “Tootsie” Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Glenn. Parents Roy and Zenobia Lee. Brothers Marion, Gene, and Donald Lee, and sister Nida Brinlee.

Service to celebrate her life will be at 2:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church. The family will welcome friends and family at the church at 1:00 pm.
