Sceatta Foster Gittinger

Jan. 21, 1902 ~ April 6, 2000

Sceatta Foster Gittinger died April 6, 2000, at Sierra Health Care in Davis. Born Jan. 21, 1902, in McLean County, Ill., she was 98.

She was raised in Oklahoma. She came to Davis with her husband in 1929 and has been a resident for the past 71 years.

When she and her husband came to Davis there were 300 faculty members and 300 students at UC Davis. The population of Davis was less than 1,500.

She was active in the General Federation of Women's Clubs and in particular its local group, Monday Alpha. She and her husband served on the Presbytery Mariner Board. She was also a participant in the University Farm Circle and a member of Davis Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Price Gittinger, on March 16, 1969.

She is survived by her children, James Price Gittinger II of Washington, D.C., and Frances Anna Gittinger of Davis.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Davis Community Church, 412 C St. Burial will take place at Davis Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Chapel.
