Florence Viola (Jones) Gearhart
August 19, 1921 ~ October 6, 2005

Florence Viola Jones Gearhart went home to be with her Lord, October 6, 2005 at 2:15 a.m. from her earthly home at 701 Sugar Maple, Ponca City, Oklahoma. 

The funeral will be held Monday, October 10, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hartford Avenue Church of Christ in Ponca City. Graveside services will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Wichita, KS at 2:30 p.m. 

Born August 19, 1921, on a farm 2 miles west of Cheney, Kansas, she was the second of three daughters born to George Nelson Jones and Neva Gila Jones. She attended schools in Kingman and Wichita, Kansas and then went to Wichita Business College and Wichita University. While at Wichita Business College, she met and married her husband, Denver Gearhart on November 23, 1938. 

She was a wonderful Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, a homemaker, medical secretary, ran a successful day nursery for fourteen years, was a realtor in Wichita for over twenty years while she also held estate sales, owned an antique store and did antique appraisals. She had been a member of Eastern Star and she loved to sing and had sung with the Sweet Adelines in Wichita. Until her health forced retirement, she enjoyed traveling to antique shows and being an antique dealer and spending summers at their home in Estes Park, Colorado. In 1996, she and Denver sold their homes in Wichita and Estes Park and moved to Ponca City to be closer to their son. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and a legion of friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Neva Jones, and a sister Sibyl Crowell. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Denver Gearhart, her son and his wife, Denver, Jr. and Janie Gearhart of Ponca City; her daughter, Gila Balman and her husband, Warren Balman of Rochester, New York; grandchildren, Sonya Shepherd and her husband Scott of Ponca City, Denver Gearhart III and his wife, Satoko of Tokyo, Japan, Steve Gearhart and his wife, Justine of Tulsa; five great grandchildren, Anna, Jessica and Jacob Shepherd and Stephanie and Jerrett Gearhart; and her sister, Virginia Gould of Wichita KS. 

Contributions may be made to the Hartford Ave. Church of Christ Disaster Relief Fund c/o Hartford Church of Christ, 1904 Joe, Ponca City, OK 74601 or Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 N Union, Ponca City, OK 74601. 

Casket bearers will be Denver Gearhart, Jr., Warren Balman, Scott Shepherd, Joby Young, Sonya Sheperd, Gila Balman. 

Honorary casket bearers will be Denver Gearhart, III, Steven Mark Gearhart, and Butch Welch
