Terry Lynn Gannaway

Terry Lynn Gannaway
August 06, 1950 ~ August 26, 2017

Terry Lynn Gannaway, age 67, of Lawton passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017 at his home.

Terry was born on August 6, 1950 in Urbana, Illinois to Malcolm Dean and Pauline Louise (Taylor) Gannaway. He grew up and attended school in Champaign, Illinois and later in Sierra Vista, Arizona where he graduated from high school. He had some college and certificates in various fields.

Terry joined the United States Marine Corp in 1968. While in the Marines, he served in Vietnam and received several awards and commendations. Terry worked at Fort Sill Credit Union, Lawton Transit Mix, Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge and at Fort Sill. Being very skilled at paint and body work on automobiles, both new and classic, he even owned his own paint and body business in Arizona. Terry was a nature and animal lover, he was happiest in the great outdoors. He enjoyed target shooting with family and friends and loved to hunt, hunting wild boar in the Huachuca and Dragoon Mountains in Arizona and deer in Oklahoma. Terry also enjoyed traveling and worked under a government contract driving a truck at one point, which allowed him the opportunity to spend time in various states, his favorite being Alaska. He also displayed his creativity and artistic abilities through his hobby of carving beautiful hand grips for guns and knives out of antler and wood. He was indeed a Renaissance man.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Moody and Zora Gannaway and Lewis and Pauline Taylor; his father, Malcolm Dean Gannaway; his step father, Charles Matthews; grandson, Tyler Vissepo; special uncle, Michael Taylor and many aunts and uncles,

Terry is survived by his wife, Olga Luz Gannaway; his daughter, Jennifer Janel (Gannaway) Jackson; the mother of his daughter, Jan Cathryn Lodes; his mother, Pauline Louise Matthews; his brother, Steven Gannaway and wife Diana and their children, Jessica and Kenneth and great nephew, Apollo Dean of Champaign, Illinois; his cousin, Shawn Taylor and wife Debbie and their daughter Sasha of Springfield, Illinois; four stepsons, Carlos, Francisco, Emmanuel and Jonathan Vissepo; seven grandchildren,  Niki, Alize, Elijah, Zoey, Jager, Winter and Delane; his best friend from teen years, Jim Eads and wife Marybeth of Champaign, Illinois and his constant and lovable furry companions, Chispi, Choko, Skeeter and Emilio along with numerous other relatives.

Terry was kind, loving, sincere and authentic. He was also quite the jokester. He had the greatest laugh and loved making others laugh. He maintained his great sense of humor throughout his life and still had years of fight left in him. He loved his country and will continue to be honored by his family and friends for all he sacrificed. His absence will be felt every day and he will be deeply and eternally missed by his family and friends.

Cremation services have been entrusted to Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.
