Beverly Sue (Russell) Gammill

Beverly Sue (Russell) Gammill
December 19, 1942 ~ December 26, 2015 (age 73)

Beverly Sue Russell Gammill, 73, was born December 19, 1942 and passed away December 26, 2015 at her home in Norman, OK.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jerry, and sons Bret and Russ (Niki); four grandchildren, Eli, Caleb, Davis and Kate Gammill; brother, Jim Russell (Margie) and sister Becky Stephens (Ron); two nephews, Jarrod Russell and Grant Stephens (Paula, and children Clara and Connor).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Katherine Russell; nephew, Jim Guy Russell and niece, Mary Katherine Stephens.

Beverly grew up in Warren, Arkansas and graduated high school in 1961. She then attended Baylor University and University of Arkansas – Monticello earning her bachelor degree. Later in life, she also earned her Master degree from Cameron University.

Beverly loved her family unconditionally and was so proud to tell her friends about them. Her friends and coworkers always knew all her family by name and all about them, even if they had not met them personally. She was such a proud wife, mom and grandmother. Beverly loved to take care of those she loved. Her giving spirit included her caring for animals that she loved dearly as well.

Excelling as an athlete in her youth, she extended those successes in her adult life to educating all those whose path she crossed by encouraging them to succeed as productive, educated citizens. Beverly’s dedication to education was exemplified by many years of teaching which ultimately led to her position as Director of Developmental Education at Galveston College in Texas. She touched so many lives as an educator by inspiring students to achieve what they thought would never be possible. Beverly also had so many friends throughout her life that she loved and cherished dearly. She loved speaking to them daily by phone or text and had a special relationship with each and every one. She had a special gift to make everyone around her feel loved and made a positive impact on those she encountered.

Beverly loved many sports and followed them closely whether it be the NFL, basketball, baseball; that included a special love of OU athletics. Even in her 40’s, she pitched for her women’s softball team that went all the way to the national finals in Tennessee.

Beverly showed so much love to others, and she will be tremendously missed by all her family and friends so special to her heart.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, 1pm to 8pm. Services will be on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 2pm at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman, OK. We know Beverly would like any in memoriam gifts to be made to her hometown youth baseball field named and dedicated to her father, Jimmy Russell:
