Norma Lu Foreman passed away peacefully Friday December 13th, 2024, at the age of 94 in Norman, Oklahoma. She spent most of her years in Prague, Oklahoma, where she built a beautiful life and was a vital member of the community. Norma was born July 7th, 1930 in the community of Garden Grove to Earl and Christie Dawkins. Norma met her husband, Milo Foreman, while they were both working at the Prague National Bank. They were soon married in January of 1951 and were blessed with four children Karl, Brent, Lance, and Ann.
Norma loved Prague and eagerly donated her time and efforts to the community. She was a member of the Garden Club, the Prague Library Board, and the Junior Federated Arts Club. She was also a member of PEO where she served in a multitude of roles and was honored for her years of membership with her 50-year pin. Norma loved to preserve the history of Prague and the surrounding areas which she accomplished as the Prague co-chair for the Lincoln County Historical Book and as a founding member of the Prague Historical Museum. One of her proudest moments was working with the family of Jim Thorpe on representing him in the museum and his connection to the city of Prague. She was honored by the community in 1989 as Beta Sigma Phi’s Women of the Year and in 2012 as Grand Marshal of the annual Kolache Festival Parade along with her husband Milo. Despite a lack of Czech heritage, Norma loved learning and performing traditional polka songs, even the Beseda, with the Polka Band for all to enjoy during the festival.
Her family credits her and Milo with instilling their love of travel, nature, and music in them. She and Milo traveled the world, including special trips with their children and grandchildren, each time returning with pictures and stories that recall fond memories because of Norma’s diligent documentation of each trip. Her kids appreciated time with her at home after school in early years; Norma’s house was always the place to gather around the table and enjoy good food from Indian cornbread to favorite desserts on birthdays. Her grandchildren’s fondest memories include catching lightning bugs and searching for locust shells with her as well as enjoying a fresh cucumber or tomato from her well-tended garden. It was a special experience to hear Norma play the piano and she shared her talent with the town by teaching piano to others and playing every Sunday at the First United Methodist Church. In addition, she was a member of the UMW and sang in the church choir. Spending time with her loved ones brought her immense joy. Norma enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, and many other games but her family recognizes her skill at Chinese checkers as unmatched.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Milo Foreman and her three brothers Earl, Howard, and Gerald Dawkins.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Karl and Karen Foreman of Loveland, Colorado; Brent and Debbie Foreman of Yukon; and Lance and Debbie Foreman of Norman; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Joel Lason of Coppell, Texas; grandchildren Daniel Foreman and his wife Angela, Jessica Foreman, Melissa Foreman, Kodi Foreman, Robby Foreman and his wife Tisha, Heidi Clark and her husband Cody, Amy Burnett and her husband Corey, Lauren Lason, and Kristen Lason; her 7 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
