Bonetta Kay "Bonnie" Easterling, 82, of Shawnee passed away Friday, December 12, 2025, in Shawnee. Bonnie was born on March 29, 1943, to Otto and Dee Huskey in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Bonnie was raised in Pawnee, Okla., before marrying James Easterling in the early 1960s and then traveling up and down the eastern seaboard of the United States with him in the military. Later, the family settled in the DFW Texas area.
Bonnie was a voracious reader, delving into books about fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and westerns. Additionally, Bonnie loved animals and would dote on the dogs, cats, and horses she came to know. Her knack for caring for plants was also well known among her friends. She could nurse almost any plant into thriving health. Those who knew her best recognized her welcoming of others. A "social butterfly" was one of the terms Bonnie embodied. Whether telling stories, or just listening to others, Bonnie was quite at home in the company of others.
Survivors include her daughter Laura Easterling and husband Mark of Denton, Texas, sister Linda Miller of Shawnee, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband James as well as her sisters Joyce Callan and Loretta Jo Cookston.
A ceremony to celebrate Bonnie's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, in the chapel at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service with SSM Hospice Chaplain Matt Wyatt officiating.
