Doris (Lee) Dunn

June 15, 1912 ~ October 18, 2005

Doris Dunn was born in Humansville, Missouri, on June 15, 1912, to Rose Cartwright and George Lee. She was the youngest in a family of four boys and one girl.

When Doris was less than a year old the Lees moved to a farm in New York state where Doris grew up. When Doris was in the fifth grade, the one room, country school she attended burned to the ground. Doris lived too far from the other school in town so her family decided she would live in town with a family during the week. She worked for her room and board and went home on weekends. The family she lived with was so fond of her they stayed in contact with her until their death. During high school she lived with another family. The man was offered a job in Massachusetts and the family was so fond of her they asked her to move with them, which she did. She graduated from Braintree High School in 1931. Following graduation, she attended a state teachers college for a year. Her mother became ill and there was not enough money for her to stay in school and hire someone to care for her mother, so she returned home to help out.

In 1934 a handsome new school teacher, LeRoy Dunn, came to town. Doris met him at a school dance and they married two years later. They moved to Superior, Wisconsin where they raised their two children. In 1947 they moved to Marion, Indiana. After the war broke out in Korea in 1950, Roy was drafted. Doris was left with two young children and no means of support. She handled this like everything else in her life with grace and dignity. She worked three jobs to support them.

Doris was such a delight. Always friendly and always cheerful and could tell the most interesting stories and had the best outlook on life and a great sense of humor.

She passed away October 18, 2005 at 93 years of age.

Survivors include her daughter Sandra McFarland of Tuttle, Oklahoma; her son Lee Dunn and his wife Sandy of Marion, Indiana; grandchildren Kathleen Marshall and Christopher Dunn; one great grandson George Raymond Marshall; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, four brothers and her sister.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 23, 2005 at the Eisenhour Chapel in Blanchard. Arrangements made by Eisenhour Funeral Home, Blanchard.
