Joe Henry Duncan Jr.

Joe Henry Duncan Jr.
October 14, 1949 ~ December 31, 2018 (age 69)

Joe Henry Duncan, Jr. was born October 14, 1949 in Crystal Springs, Mississippi to Joe Henry, Sr. and Dorothy (Minton) Duncan. He passed away on December 31, 2018 at his home near Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 69.

Joey moved with his family to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he graduated from Istrouma High School in 1967. That summer, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he was assigned to the USS John F. Kennedy and served his country during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, Joey returned to Baton Rouge and began working for his uncle in the electrical business. He later worked with his brother, Johnny, and they operated a neon sign business. He also painted houses and opened a restaurant before returning to work for his uncle and eventually became an electrical engineer. He worked at several power plants in Louisiana before beginning his career as Journeyman.

His work took him all across the United States even to Africa, Iraq and the Philippines where he was instrumental in reassembling power plants that were shipped to those nations from the United States. He was working on a job near Sayre when he met Debbie Campbell and they were married on May 24, 1997 in Palestine, Texas. They remained in Palestine for a time and then they traveled together for a year following his work. They decided they wanted to put down roots, so Debbie returned to Sayre to make a home for them while Joey continued to travel as a Journeyman.

In 2005, they purchased some land west of Sayre where they built their homeplace. Joey spent many months on the road during their marriage and always looked forward to the opportunities when he could go back to Sayre and spend time with Debbie. He retired in 2014 and finally got to return home for good.

To say Joey was an avid sports fan would be an understatement. He enjoyed watching all types of college and professional sports and could discuss them for hours with his friends and family. He was extremely passionate about Louisiana State University athletics and made it a point to follow them on the television and radio at every opportunity. One time while he was working in Texas and couldn’t receive the broadcast of LSU football game so he drove to the closest town and rented a hotel room just so he could watch the game. Joey also enjoyed cooking and sitting outside visiting with friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Johnny.

Joey leaves behind him to remember him; his loving wife, Debbie; daughter, Robyn Duncan of Denham Springs, Louisiana and her children, Kadence and Addison; son, Marty High of Denham Springs, Louisiana and his children, Bayleigh, Peyton, Mason, Brenlee; daughter, Bridget Anderson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and her children, Taylor and Faith; sister, Sheila Yost of North Carolina; brother, Luke Duncan of Oregon; brother, Jerry Duncan of Denver, CO; brother, David Duncan of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a very special sister-in-law, Sheryl Duncan of Gonzales, Louisiana and niece, Jaki, and nephew, Jake; his mother-in-law, Janis Campbell of Sayre, Oklahoma; his “favorite” sisters-in-law, Carolyn Connell of Sayre, Oklahoma and Teresa Hickerson of Snyder, Oklahoma; treasured nieces, Devin Locklear and Paula Hickerson; a host of other family members and many, many friends.

Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Rose Chapel with Mike Abel officiating.
