Sue Ann (Olsen) Downs

Sue Ann (Olsen) Downs
November 13, 1940 - September 25, 2017

Sue Ann Downs, 76, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away September 25, 2017 at her residence in Bartlesville.

Mrs. Downs was born on November 13, 1940, in Alameda, California to Hother Edmund and Edith Geraldine Olsen.

She graduated from San Leandro High School in California, and she met her husband George F. Downs, III while they were both attending college at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. The couple was married at the First Southern Baptist Church of Palo Alto on June 17, 1962 and then made their home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. While Mr. Downs was in the Civil Service, the couple spent 22 years in Panama, finally returning to Bartlesville for good in 1998.

Mrs. Downs had a heart for ministry and a passion for working with children. She was an active, fully participating member of the churches they attended over the years, taking on both servant and leadership roles as need arose. She taught Sunday school for 52 years and frequently was the "library lady" at church and in schools where they lived.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan E. Downs, Ann Margaret van Hemert, & Esther L. Maples; grandsons Edward B. Dixon, Benjamin K. Dixon, Peter W. van Hemert, & Aaron van Hemert; granddaughters Purity Ann van Hemert & Annabelle van Hemert; and great-grandson Phoenix L. Dixon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hother & Edith Olsen and her husband, George F. Downs III.

The family invites you to join in a memorial celebration of Susie's life on Wednesday, October 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Community Church, Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

In keeping with her feelings on these matters, we ask that you wear bright colors! Also, please consider making a donation, in lieu of flowers, to: Grace Missions International, P.O. Box 577, Bartlesville, OK 74005
