Virginia Lee (Adair) Dowell

December 23, 1925 ~ March 26, 2007

Virginia Dowell, daughter of Julius K. Adair and Eula (Edmiston) Adair was born December 23, 1925 in the Piney Community of Stilwell, OKlahoma. She departed this life March 26, 2007 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 2 days.

Virginia was married to Ernest "Dale" Dowell August 1, 1952 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker who enjoyed the duties that followed her role as wife, mother to her three children and grandmother. Virginia worked for several years in the Baca County Clerk's office. She spent much of her time working outside in her flower gardens. She also enjoyed painting, working cross word puzzles, and learning new things. Her children say she was very much a student of life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale Dowell, four brothers; John, Kimsey, Connie and Chester Adair; one sister Helen Blakemore and one granddaughter Leah Marie Dowell-Wilhite.

Virginia is survived by a loving family that includes two daughters; Connie Rice and husband, Richard of Kinsley, KS and Kaie Dowell of Amarillo, TX, one son; John Dowell and wife Jana of Levelland, TX, six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers; Denver Adair and Jess Adair and wife Louise all of Stilwell, OK, one sister; Hazel Grooms of Stilwell, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive her.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 28, 2007 in the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Larry E. Adair officiating. Services under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home, Stilwell, OK. Graveside services were held Friday, March 30, 2007 in the Springfield City Cemetery under the direction of Rich Funeral Home, Springfield, CO.
