Mildred Katherine (Staley) Dix
December 27, 1921 ~ September 1, 2020

Mildred Katherine (Staley) Dix was born Dec. 27, 1921 to Charles and Bertha (Weber) Staley in Martinsville, IL. She was the 2nd of 5 children. She graduated from Martinsville Community High School in 1939. On Jan. 31, 1942, she married Paul Gallatin, her H.S. beau. They were married for 36 years and raised 4 children in Milwaukee, WI. Mildred was a talented homemaker, an expert seamstress, chef, gardener, game player, and multi-tasker. She sponsored Chi Rho youth group at church and participated in the Women’s group. As her nest was emptying, she started working for Marshall Field in Brookfield, WI in their business office and continued for 15+ years.

On Sept. 27, 1979, Mildred married Dr. Kenneth H. Dix in Muskegon, MI and they resided in Carson City where she worked as the Vice-President of the Carson Clinic. For a time, they lived and worked in Tulsa, OK and then in Wortham, TX until his death on Jan. 6, 1989.

After retiring, Mildred continued her church work and volunteered with the Senior Friends, visiting nursing homes and playing in their air band. After moving to Houston, TX, she continued volunteering at church and the local hospital, running the gift shop. In 2007, due to declining mobility and health issues, Mildred moved to Oklahoma City, OK to live with her daughter.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, her second husband; her siblings, Gerald, Larry, Zola and Hazel; son, Daniel Gallatin; grandson, Mark Gallatin; and daughter-in-law, Beverly Gallatin.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Lautzenhiser (Walt); 2 sons, Howard Gallatin and Fred Gallatin (Dianne); grandson, Glenn Lautzenhiser (Chloe); granddaughters, Louise Boyd, Jennifer Graham (Brian), Katherine Godwin (Cory), Rebecca Fleming (Paul), Deborah Shoemaker (Matt), and Chelsie Turner (Daniel); 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be Saturday, September 12, 2020, 1:00-2:00pm, at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. 6th St., Marshall, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Research, St. Jude, or the charity of your choice.
