Teddy Gene "Ted" Dirickson

Teddy Gene "Ted" Dirickson
October 27, 1936 ~ August 05, 2018

Teddy "Ted" Gene Dirickson, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, left this world Sunday morning, August 5, 2018, to wait for us in heaven.

Ted was born in Ryan, Oklahoma, to Thomas J. and Silvateen Dirickson and later moved to Marlow where he grew up and attended school with his three brothers, Tom, Gerald, and Henry.

Always ambitious, he worked at the feed and grain store, on his uncles' farms, and other assorted jobs before and after school. He graduated from Marlow High School in 1954.

Ted was partial to smart women and his marriage to high school sweetheart, Bette Thompson, almost 64 years ago, was particularly helpful in that regard.

Ted soon found himself surrounded by more women with the births of his daughters Teddi, Ashley and Eloise. These strong women then gave him eight amazing grandchildren.

He thrilled in teaching the kids to climb, fish, build fences, dig for gold, change a tire, find the boat, train a dog, shoot a gun, ride a horse, and hunt. He took great pride in teaching and helping many people, believing in working hard and loving equally as hard.

His imagination entertained many generations. As a young boy, he swore his hair was cut by the scissortail flycatchers, giving him the nickname "Scissors." His mom's favorite story was the time Ted skipped school, kidnapped his toddler brother, Gerald, and took off for a day of berry picking, leaving his mother and the surrounding neighbors in a state of panic until they were found.

His young mind wove tales of marauding Indians coming over the hill. Later he would brag how his brother, Henry, once robbed Fort Knox and buried the gold at the family farm.

He shared his personal secrets involving the best way to hunt and find "bugrillas" and "wolf-a-loupes" which only Gran (his wife) knew how to cook properly! He could draw, tell funny stories, listen to them, and even when you knew better, he made you want to believe.

No one was safe from his silly songs, stories and antics. As his brothers married, he targeted their wives with his wit, pranks, and storytelling exploits.

He was an adventurer and ready to try his hand at everything from riding a bucking bronco to hunting, camping, cattle ranching, boating, even skiing in his Valentine-themed boxers (to the embarrassment of his daughters), and fishing with his dad, brothers and sons-in-law.

He loved his time with family and never felt he had enough moments with them. Ted was always full speed ahead; he never wanted to half-a** anything!

Ted has left behind a legacy of love: his wife, Bette, daughter Teddi Cuccio and husband Guy, daughter Ashley Hough and daughter Eloise Miller and husband Chad, all of Edmond.

He also leaves behind six granddaughters, Misty Smith-Ray of Sapulpa, Dawn Grady of Moore, Sheena Murray of Weatherford, Elizabeth Miller, Linda Cuccio, and Bethany Miller all of Edmond.

He is also survived by grandsons, Adam Burrow of Toledo, OH, and Austin Miller of Norman, and by four great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons. He is also survived by his brother Gerald and wife Janet, and sister-in-law Dianne Dirickson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association https://alz.org, or Chisholm Creek Baptist Church.

Greeting Ted in heaven are his parents and his oldest brother Tom, and his baby brother, Henry.

He was a man who loved his family, loved his life, and he will be missed by those who knew and loved him. His legacy will live on through his many loved ones.

Service is 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Chisholm Creek Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond.

Condolences at https://MatthewsFuneralHome.com.
