Donald Alvin Dickerson

Nov. 11, 1914 ~ Aug. 14, 2004

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Donald Alvin "Uncle Jeff" Dickerson, 89, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church in Taos. Arrangements are by Sunrise Funeral Options.

Mr. Dickerson was born Nov. 11, 1914, in Gould, Okla., to Alvin and Hallie Dickerson. He received his bachelor's degree on a basketball scholarship from Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Okla., and a master's degree from Highlands University.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was a teacher, basketball coach, an administrator in Vilais, Colo., and Griggs, Okla., and a school principal in Amarillo, Texas, at Glenwood and Lawndale elementary schools until his retirement in 1972.

He was a member of Lions Club International in Amarillo and Taos. He was especially fond of operating the Taos Lions Club merry-go-round Tio Vivo every Fiesta.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Mason in 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Ada, of Fort Worth, Texas and Taos; three children, John and Kathleen, both of Santa Fe and Bob of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Scott, Cindy and Brent, all of Amarillo; a great-grandson, Payton; a sister, Alice Beth of Connecticut; four stepchildren, Ann of Fort Worth, David of San Antonio, Dick of Dallas and Baker of San Francisco; and many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks from the family to his nieces, Lou Ann Hall of Amarillo and Laurie Dickerson of Taos, the Hiems family and staff of Plaza de Retiro for their loving care and attention.

The family suggests memorials be to Taos Lions Club, 1417 Phillips St., Taos, NM 87571.
