Warren W. Dick

Warren W. Dick
December 31, 1922 ~ May 11, 2018

Warren W. Dick, age 95, long time resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018, in Ponca City.

Warren was born in Mt. Hope, KS on December 31, 1922, the seventh of ten children, to Paul A. and Florence B. Dick. He was raised on the family farm, graduating from Mt. Hope High School in 1941.

After high school, he attended Emporia State University in Emporia, KS where he played on the football team and supported himself through college. While in college,

Warren's desire to serve his country called him away from his studies. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, working as an aviation mechanic on the U.S.S. Enterprise in the South Pacific. He was proud of his plane and its pilot returning to the aircraft carrier after each mission and ultimately returning home.

Warren returned to Emporia State University to complete his bachelor's degree in business administration following the war and his honorable discharge. During this time, he met his future wife, Helen B. Laybourn; they married on June 15, 1947, in El Dorado, KS.

Following his college graduation in 1948, Warren was hired by Conoco, where he retired in 1985 after a gratifying 37 year career. They had two daughters that he dearly loved. After Helen's passing, Warren married Joan Burrow on November 7, 1992, at Grace Episcopal Church, and last year, they celebrated 25 years of marriage.

Warren lived by the "work hard, play hard" philosophy. Diligent work brought him satisfaction in accounting and auditing for Conoco, and after retiring, he frequently volunteered at Grace Episcopal Church, where he was a member for seventy years. At Grace Episcopal, Warren served many years on the vestry, and was elected to several terms as Senior Warden. Warren also served on the Board of Directors for the Golden Villa Adult Day Care Center and on his home owners association. Warren enjoyed badminton with friends, but he most enjoyed boating and skiing with his daughters and their friends on Lake Ponca and other area lakes. His patience helped many of his daughters' friends learn to water ski.

Warren was quite skilled at the harmonica, having played in the harmonica band in school. He continued to enjoy music and dancing with family and friends well into his 90s. Warren enjoyed planning and providing for annual family adventures to Grand Lake, Lake of the Ozarks and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. His love for serving others was evident in so many things, whether it was helping at the church, or preparing tax returns as a certified AARP volunteer for eleven years. He especially enjoyed doing home improvement projects for his family. He gave of himself, finding joy, purpose, and energy in giving his time, talents, and treasures to others.

Survivors include his wife Joan of Ponca City, children Valerie Hall of Chesterfield, MO, Jackie Coburn and husband David of Irving, TX, and Jeff Burrow of Broken Arrow, OK, sister Virginia Froggatte of Mt. Hope, KS, grandchildren, Brett Hall and wife Kim of Eureka, MO, Kristen Younger and husband Eric of Leawood, KS, Jason Hamilton and wife Michelle of Greenwood, MO, Kyle Coburn of Dallas, TX, Greg Burrow of Broken Arrow, OK and Neil Burrow of Milwaukee, WI, and great grandchildren Reagan, Claire, Lauren, Addison, Corbin and Cohen, special friends, Jeannie and Charles Hall of Leawood, KS as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Helen, daughter Marsha Hamilton, and siblings: Paul Dick, Russell Dick, Helen Cherry, Glenn Dick, Robert Dick, Carl Dick, Dorothy Dick, and Leon Dick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 109 N. 13th St., Ponca City, OK 74601.
