Shawn Lee Dewbre

August 7, 1966 ~ June 28, 2018

A spiritual giant, Shawn Lee Dewbre, of Austin, Texas, has passed on to Heaven at the age of 51, on Thursday, June 28, 2018. Born August 7, 1966 in Ardmore, he was the son of Joe Dewbre and Kathy Brooks.

Many things can be said about Shawn Dewbre, but we would be writing a book. He was a loving companion of his fiancée, Molly Wolfe. He was an affectionate dad to his daughter, Brandy Rodriguez, and caring grandpa to Emma Rodriguez. He was the most wonderful and devoted son to his mother, Kathy Brooks. He was a caring son to his (papa bear) Joel Brooks. He was a shining light and a joy to his dad Joe Dewbre. He was a kind and encouraging brother to his sisters, Shellie Barnett and Angela Barnett, and his brother, David Barnett. Shawn was to the best of his ability a lover and not a fighter. He never met a stranger. Shawn had a delightful sense of humor, and a strong belief in God. His attitude was to share love, encouragement, and a kind word to all he encountered in his daily routine of life.

He was a carpenter by trade and his favorite all-time love was his music. He played guitar, sang, and wrote songs. He had published five songs and had written many other songs that had not been recorded. He was a member of the RAWartists organization. He played in several venues in Austin: The Belmont, The Bat Bar, Strange Brew, and many other venues. Everyone who heard his music fell in love with him and his songs. Shawn in 2010 helped with the opening of a sober home for men and women who needed a place to live while on their path to recovery. His mom, papa bear, and brother started the home together. Shawn worked long hours along with his brother David making repairs and having ideas for the structure of the home. He was always eager to give back to hurting people and did his best to help those in recovery.

Heaven has truly gained a wonderful man and earth has lost a man of compassion and greatness.

During his childhood, he lived in Longview, Texas. He spent some of his summers with his dad Joe Dewbre. He spent two years with his dad living in Australia and was playing basketball, enjoying school, and the country. He then moved back to Longview where he finished high school and joined the army. After the army, he lived in Longview several years and married Tricia Dewbre. After the death of his wife in 2008, he moved to Austin where he made his home.

Shawn was preceded in death by his wife, Tricia Dewbre; daughter, Kaylie Thompson; brother, Joshua Dewbre; grandpa, Monk Dewbre; grandmother, Pauline Pierce; and grandpa, Layman Dale Tadlock.

Survivors include his fiancée, Molly Wolfe; daughter, Brandy Rodriguez and spouse Thomas Rodriguez; granddaughter, Emma Rodriguez; mother, Kathy Brooks and spouse Joel Brooks; dad, Joe Dewbre and spouse Nancy Dewbre; grandmother, Lois Dewbre; sisters, Shellie Barnett, Angela Barnett and Michelle Wheeler; brother, David Barnett and spouse Diana Barnett; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorial services celebrating the life of Shawn will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 11, at Wilson Assembly of God, Wilson. A meal will be provided after the service.

This obituary included a photo of Mr. Dewbre.
