Dr. Paul Cecil Denny Jr.

Dr. Paul Cecil Denny Jr. passed away January 5, 2018. Paul was born Sept. 1st, 1935, to Paul and Ruthelma Denny in Wichita, Kansas.

While in the service of our country he married Murel Weiss of Wichita in 1955 then moved to New Kensington, PA, to finish out his service.

He earned a BFA in 1959 and a MFA in 1961 from Wichita University. He taught in Fayette and Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He then moved to Enid, OK, and taught Art at Phillips University from 1967-94. After that he moved to Monticello, AK., and taught Art at University of Arkansas, from 95-99, from where he retired from teaching and moved back to Enid.

He was a member of the Lions Club, Garden Club, Art Council, a deacon at Central Christian Church. During his time at Phillips he visited Africa on sabbatical with the art community to research for a new text book. He set up an exchange program to Sweden and taught there several times. He and Murel built a vacation home cabin and lived their summers there at Pagosa Springs, CO, from '87-'91. He visited Ireland and saw the Denny Castle while tracing his family roots. He was able to meet a lifelong dream and toured the Panama Canal. He enjoyed playing golf and hunting with his Brittany Spaniel dogs with his father and son. He took care of his wife Murel till the day she passed away in August of 2010. He remarried Patsy Reynolds of Manteo, N.C., April 9, 2011.

He is survived by wife Patsy Denny of N.C. and her son, Darrell Reynolds, and daughter, Darlene and Doug Sells; Paul and Murel's daughters, Cheryl Batchelder (Rodney), Paula DeWolf, and son, Dale Denny (Jamie), all of Enid; grandchildren, Ryan (Bryan) Batchelder, Jamie (Rickey) Castle, Kayla (Allen) Amschler and Corey Denny; great-grandchild, Allan Castle; siblings, Jon Denny of Wichita, Kansas, Jeanette Magee of Florida, Loretta Denny (wife of Jack) of Oregon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 55 years Murel; and a brother, Jack of Oregon. 

A memorial service is Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Central Christian Church, Enid, Oklahoma.
