Michael Lynn "Micky" DeLashaw

Michael Lynn "Micky" DeLashaw
September 10, 1943 ~ October 29, 2023

Michael Lynn (Micky) DeLashaw was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on September 10, 1943. He passed away in Plano, Texas, on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at age 80 years. As a boy, his family moved to Kemp, OK then Durant, OK where his mother was a teacher and his father was Superintendent at local schools. Church played a central role in the DeLashaw household and Micky accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age - though his parents continued to bribe him with loose change to remove his cowboy hat and six shooter for services.

Micky would attend Kemp and Durant schools eventually graduating from Cobb High where he participated in several sports including basketball and baseball, but found his life-long passion in rodeo after trying his hand at bull riding. He would go on to be part of the rodeo team in college, serve as President of the Durant Roundup Club and the CRRA (Cowboys Regional Rodeo Association).

He was a well-known rodeo judge in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Kansas, working primarily with the Wing Rodeo Company. Spending a lot of time on the rodeo circuit, it was at one of these rodeos Micky met the love of his life Sheila Rae Dennis. He was judging and she was barrel racing. They married August 31, 1984, and would spend the rest of his years together rodeoing and working the land they lived on and loved.

When not mowing the lawn, on a tractor, cleaning stalls or feeding horses, Micky also managed to retire from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol after 20 years of service. Still not having enough to do at home he would go on to a second career in Surveillance as manager over the casino and travel plazas with the Choctaw Casino and Resort.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila; loving daughter Gail DeLashaw of Durant; brother Larry DeLashaw of Utica, OK; sister-in-law Pat Sistrunk of Kilgore, TX; nieces Donna and husband Steve Dow of Utica and Diana DeLashaw of Dallas, TX; Brenda Barnes and partner Connie of Longview, TX; Taylor and husband Mark Renninger and children (Mason and Marleigh) of Kingwood, TX; and Dani Dennis and partner Monti and son (Angel) of Webster, TX; nephew Bill Barnes of Kilgore, TX; great-nephew Justin Dow and wife Jenny and children (Logan, Maddison, McKinley, Wyatt, and Watson) of Fort Towson, OK; and great-niece Reyna Barnes of Austin, TX.

Preceding him in death were parents Albert F. and Oma Jewel DeLashaw; brother Albert DeLashaw Jr., sister-in-law Bonnie DeLashaw, brothers-in-law Buddy Dennis and Preston Sistrunk, father-in-law Nick Dennis and mother-in-law Faye Dennis.

Friends and family visitation will be Monday, Nov. 6, from 2-4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Service, 4900 W. Hwy 70 in Durant. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU) Rodeo Team Scholarships, c/o Christi Braudrick, 425 W University, Durant, OK 74701.
