Lt. Col. Vernon Keith Davis

Vernon Keith Davis
April 11, 1931 ~ May 18, 2019 (age 88)

Lt. Col. Vernon Keith Davis entered his Heavenly home May 18, 2019 at the age of 88. He was born April 11, 1931 in Oklahoma City to Esker and Mildred Davis.

Vernon grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1949. He went on to attend the University of Oklahoma where he obtained a degree in Engineering and was active in ROTC and a member of the Pride of Oklahoma. Vernon married the love of his life, Peggy Rogers, on September 1, 1953 at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, where they have now been members at for the past 65 years.

After college, Vernon joined the United States Army as a Civil Engineer. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict and retired after more than 20 years. His service in the military stationed him all over the world. Shortly after retiring from the Army, he went on to continue his passion in Engineering. He started working for Alyeska on the Alaskan Pipeline, then began working in Saudi Arabia, and eventually came back to Oklahoma where he consulted on the Tinker Hospital addition, and then worked for the state of Oklahoma. He officially retired on May 15, 1994.

Vernon’s favorite hobby was anything to do with electronics. He always had to have the newest gadgets and found great joy in finding and purchasing new items. While in high school, he also had a passion for photography. Above all, he loved to travel the world. He and Peggy were true world travelers together and visited Europe, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, the entire United States, and many other wonderful places.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; and a sister, Carole Mae Davis, and a brother, Arnold Davis.

Survivors include his loving wife, Peggy Davis; sons, Dennis Davis and wife Mary of Frenchtown, MT and Randy Davis of San Jose, CA; daughter, Cathy Fegett and husband, James O. of Norman; grandchildren, Kyle Scott Davis and wife Emily and Danielle Davis; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Ethan, and Lillian; brother, Donald R. Davis and wife Mignon of MD; He is also survived by his nephew, Roger Geyer and wife Alexa, niece, Jean Ann Jones and husband Johnny, as well as many other family and friends.

A memorial service to honor Vernon’s life will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 10, 2019 at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorial donations can be made to the McFarlin Chancel Choir in Vernon’s name.
