At a young age his family moved to California. They settled in Bakersfield when he was 14 and he attended and graduated from South High School in 1960.

He volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964, stationed aboard the LST U.S.S. Wexford County.

He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Upchurch Clements in 1963.

After his service discharge he was employed by Kern High School District in the Data Processing Department in Bakersfield in 1964. He spent 33 years with KHSD and retired as Director of Data Processing in 1998. During his career he prided himself in keeping KHSD on the "cutting edge" of technology, developing and implementing many innovative computer services for the district.

After retirement, he and wife Linda enjoyed extensive RV travels and in 2007 made their home in Tehachapi, CA.

He was an extremely proud and patriotic veteran. He was also a loving husband, father, grandfather, son-in-law, brother, uncle, and good friend to many.

He loved to socialize and was known for his limitless number of jokes and stories. His greatest joys were doting on his grandchildren, his RV travels, watching and attending NASCAR races supporting his favorite driver, Kevin Harvick, and visiting with friends and relatives.
