Donald L. "Don" Claypole

Donald L. "Don" Claypole
February 19, 1930 ~ July 13, 2021

Donald "Don" L. Claypole passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021 in his home in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years.

Don was born February 19, 1930 in Caldwell, Kansas to George and Opal (Work) Claypole.

He graduated from Caldwell High School in 1949 then joined the United States Marine Corps on October 16, 1951. He was stationed in San Diego, California and later served in Korea as a field radio operator. After coming back from Korea he was stationed at Hastings, Nebraska where he was discharged on October 15, 1953. During his time of service Don earned the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

After his discharge he moved back to Caldwell where he met the love of his life Carolyn Warner. They were married April 15, 1955 in Arkansas City, Kansas. They lived in Caldwell and Arkansas City before deciding to move to Elk City, Oklahoma.

Don worked for his father-in-law in a body and fender shop. Eventually Don took over the body shop until he retired at age 65. He then worked part time where he managed storage units until he was no longer able to do so.

Over the years Don enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends, keeping up the yard work, taking naps in his chair and watching old westerns with the volume up almost as loud as it would go.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn, of the home, a brother, Dewey Claypole of Wellington, Kansas and a host of other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother and a sister.

No services are scheduled at this time.
