Mary Lee Eunice (Klapp) Clark

Mary Lee Eunice (Klapp) Clark
July 8, 1935  ~ January 18, 2021 (age 85)

Mary Lee Eunice Klapp Clark, a loving, beautiful lady with a lot of name, was born on July 8, 1935, to John Dale Klapp and Inez Eunice (Bailey) Klapp in Tecumseh, OK where she spent most of her life. She passed from this life to “a day of rejoicing” on January 18, 2021.

Mary Eunice, as she was known in the Tecumseh community, graduated from Tecumseh High School in May of 1953, and married Roy H. Clark on July 10, 1953. Though she was an only child, Mary Eunice watched the movie, “Cheaper by the Dozen”, and decided that sounded like a good idea. She changed her mind after having 5 children, Carla Cecile (Clark) Hale; John Bailey Clark, and his wife, Julie; Roy Lee Clark; Clyde Lynn Clark; and James David Clark, and wife Connie. She has 6 grandchildren: Monty Stevan (Steve) Hale, Jr.; Alisa Denise Hale-Sparks and husband, Jon; Jacob Clarke Hale and wife, Janell; Misty Dawn McCray; Shonna Jo Cortez and husband, Eugenio; and Ricky Allen McCray and wife Chantel; 15 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren, many cousins, other family and friends.

Mary enjoyed the variety of jobs she held throughout her life, working with and serving the public. She began her work career in her father’s pharmacy, Klapp Drug, and finally retired from Richard’s Drug over 50 years later. She was known and appreciated by many in the community, even earning the “Friendliest Employee”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy Clark, a daughter-in-law, Connie Thompson, and a great-grandson, Hayden Allen McCray.

Mary Eunice loved music, reading, swimming, playing games, working in the yard, laughing, her church, and her family. Her love of music and her church were especially evident in her many years of service to First Christian Church in Tecumseh, where her grandfather was one of the founding members. She served in nearly every capacity imaginable, including teaching (she especially loved her youth groups), serving as chairperson of the board, cleaning the church, playing the organ, singing, and even playing on the church softball team well into her 60’s!!

To honor the life of Mary Eunice, her family asks that you hug your family, play a game, share a laugh, and sing a song together.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Marcia Shoemaker, United Methodist Church officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh, Oklahoma. The family respectfully requests that masks be worn.
