Betty Jo 'B. J.' (Brown) Clagg

Nov. 24, 1938 ~ Mar. 23, 2006

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, March 30th, 1:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel, for Betty Jo Clagg, V. R. Bispo will be officiating. A graveside service will follow the funeral service. There will be a reception after the services at the Tehachapi Valley Recreation Hall, 410 West 'D' Street, in Tehachapi, CA.

Betty was born in Antler, Oklahoma on November 24, 1938 to Rueben and Georgia Brown, and she was one of ten children.

She moved to California at the age of five and passed away on Thursday, March 23 in her home in Tehachapi in the loving arms of her husband, Randall.

Betty and Randall moved to Tehachapi from Arroyo Grande 40 years ago so Randall could work in his two chosen livelihoods; construction and ranching.

Betty was a fulltime homemaker and an unbelievably steadfast partner to her husband, Randall. Betty was totally devoted to her family and her faith. Her family ALWAYS came first. She taught her children through her daily example and not by 'Do as I say.' Her family and friends never had to guess if Betty loved them - she told them and showed them constantly.

Betty was a beautiful woman both inside and out and took great pride in her appearance, and she always shined, no matter how she might be feeling that day.

She was baptized Jehovah's Witness for 38 years, was proud of her faith and she touched many lives.

Betty had a zest for life, living each day as though it was her last, and she never knew a stranger. She always looked at the potential that each person had and was willing to lend a hand to help. Those of us that knew Betty can attest to the fact that no matter what the circumstances, she had a listening ear and was a self-proclaimed couch therapist.

In life Betty had many hobbies that she enjoyed, including bowling, volleyball, softball and other sports, Indian leg wrestling and just being a great friend to her many, many loved ones.

Betty was preceded in death by her grandsons, Joshua Burkhart and Lance Hillis.

Betty is survived by Randall, her husband of 52 years; her son, Rick and wife, Connie of Tehachapi; daughter, Dena Burkhart and husband, Jack of Tehachapi; son, Randall, Jr. and wife, Shannon of Templeton; daughter, Macie Chamberlain and husband, Jack, of Tehachapi; and son, Darin and wife, Yvonne of Stratford, CA, as well as 15 grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by two of her 9 siblings; brother, Bill Brown of Bakersfield and sister, Doris Jean Davis of Klammath Falls, OR.
