Col. Keith Lorry Cieri

October 16, 1956 - July 10, 2007

Colonel Keith Cieri enlisted in the service in 1981. During his enlistment he earned and graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska.

He was commissioned in August of 1984, and was an honor graduate of both Officer Candidate School and The Basic School. Upon completion of The Basic School, 2ndLt Cieri attended the Basic Communications Officer Course at Quantico, VA.

Upon graduation in 1985, he reported to 2d Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, NC where he served as both Platoon Commander and Comm-Elect Officer for Target Acquisition Battalion and then 5th Battalion, 10th Marines until July 1987. During his assignment he received his Master's Degree in Human Resources Management.

Following his tour with 2d Marine Division, 1stLt Cieri was assigned to Recruiting Station Detroit, Michigan where he served as the Operations and Executive Officer until July 1990, when he was selected for career level school at Quantico, VA.

He attended the Command and Control Systems Course from August 1990, until his graduation in June of 1991. Captain Cieri then reported to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18, 1st Marine Air Wing, Okinawa, Japan in June of 1991, where he served as a Detachment Commander, Detachment Executive and Operations Officer and Squadron Operations Officer.

During his tenure at MWCS-18 Captain Cieri was deployed and served as the Marine Liaison Officer to Italy, San Marcos Battalion of Marines during Operation Restore Hope in Mogadisu, Somalia. Upon his return, he assumed duties as the S-6 for a Special Purpose MAGTF aboard the USS Independence. After his return from the USS Independence, he was assigned duties as the S-6 for Marine Wing Support Group 17 in Okinawa, Japan. In June of 1994, Captain Cieri returned from Okinawa for duty with the 2d Force Service Support Group at Camp Lejeune, NC, and was immediately deployed to the Joint Task Force for Operations Support Hope in Rwanda, Africa. Upon his return, he assumed Command of the Communications Company where he was promoted to Major and was reassigned duties as the Executive Officer of the Headquarters and Service Battalion, 2d FSSG.

Major Cieri was selected to attend the Army Command and Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and a follow on joint duty assignment. Subsequent to his graduation in June of 1998, Major Cieri was assigned to HQ USCENTCOM, Tampa, FL for duties as Action Officer in both the J-3 and the J-6 and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in November of 2000. In June of 2001, LtCol Cieri was assigned to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California as the Assistant Chief 1st Marine Air Wing in Okinawa, Japan as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Communications Information Systems. He was selected to Command the 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island starting in August of 2002.

After completion of his Battalion Command, LtCol Cieri was assigned to the 1st Marine Air Wing in Okinawa, Japan as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-6. LtCol Cieri was selected for promotion to Colonel and to attend the College of Naval Warfare during the summer of 2006. Promoted to the rank of Colonel on 1 July 2006,

Col Cieri transferred to Newport, RI where he attended the Naval War College. Col Cieri graduated in June 2007 earning a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3 gold stars), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/ gold star, Air Force Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.

He is married to the former Barbara Gail Johnson and they have three children, Shawna Del, Lorry Gail and Jon Aaron Keith.
