Claudia G. (Cannon) Chilcoat

Claudia G. (Cannon) Chilcoat
September 21, 1937 ~ August 30, 2020

Claudia G. Chilcoat was born on September 21, 1937 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Lloyd L. Cannon and Elsie M. (Miller) Cannon. Her bright spirit entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 30, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 8 days.

Being an only child and the daughter of a Tulsa Postmaster, she considered herself an uptown girl and enjoyed the many exciting things that Tulsa had to offer. Claudia remembered traveling to Haskell to visit her grandparents who owned a General Store in town and was proud that her grandfather, Virgil Cannon served as the Muskogee County Sheriff. She attended and graduated from Central High School. She met a young man from the Westside of town and they fell in love. She married Jodie Lee Chilcoat on July 16, 1955 at the 15th Street Church of Christ while he was going through National Guard basic training at Ft. Sill. Their marriage certificate was witnessed by Lloyd Cannon and Leo Bilby. Three years later, they welcomed their daughter Jeanie whom they loved dearly.

In 1962, the family moved to Haskell where Claudia had inherited some land. Moving to a rural area was something new and quite a challenge for the family. Jeanie remembers not having running water in the house until she was 12 years old. Claudia, a hard worker learned how to raise cattle and attempted to raise chickens. However, the many predators in the area did not cooperate with her endeavors. In her spare time, Claudia enjoyed reading and taking care of her flower beds. She also loved watching football. She was quite knowledgeable about the different teams and who she thought would make it to the playoffs. She never actually specified a favorite team, she just enjoyed the game and found it fascinating to watch. Claudia also loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Jodie Lee Chilcoat.

She is survived by her daughter Jeanie L. Chilcoat-Morgan and her husband John A. Morgan, 2 grandchildren; Joe R. Morgan and his wife Tara L., of Haskell and Jamie S. Morgan Davidson-McAfee, and her husband Jarod, of Weatherford, Oklahoma, her great-grandchildren; Macy Jo Morgan, Drake D. Davidson and Kalyn B. Davidson.
