 Leonard Roosevelt Chasteen, Sr.

Leonard Roosevelt Chasteen, Sr.
August 18, 1932 ~ August 16, 2022

Memorial Service for Leonard Roosevelt Chasteen, 89, of Ada, will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Joe Thomas will officiate.

Mr. Chasteen, 89, of Ada, passed away August 16, 2022 at his home; just days shy of his 90th birthday.

Born on August 18, 1932 in Hannah, OK, Leonard was the ninth child to Minnie May Jones and Benjamin Valentine Chasteen. He was proud of his modest upbringings and spoke highly of his parents. During his upbringing, Leonard spent time in-between Oklahoma and California doing a variety of jobs that kept him busy. He spent a great deal of time working on vehicles, lawnmowers, television sets, and other items with his brothers, nephews and other relatives. His hobbies included fishing, whittling, playing the guitar and harmonica, and singing country songs. He is remembered fondly for being a good singer, whistling songs with perfect pitch, and playing the guitar very well.

In 2018, Leonard made a “guest” appearance on Netflix’s The Innocent Man. You can see him on episode 1 enjoying one of his many hobbies of sitting outside watching the traffic go by. He was very proud of this feat, and he would tell everyone he met about his starring role!

Even at the age of 89, Leonard enjoyed working with his hands, riding four wheelers, and going out to eat at different restaurants. He never passed up the offer to eat a chicken fried steak dinner and reminisce of days passed. He enjoyed his “waky tabaky” and had big heart when it came to cats, kittens, dogs and other animals.

Leonard is survived by his children Leonard Jr. (Whochie), Leonard Ray, Teresa and Brenda Chasteen; grandchildren Nick, Damien, Tariel, Desi, Tamico and Shane, along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great nephews. He is also survived by a special great-nephew whom he spent quality time with over the past 10 years, Joe Thomas. Lastly, Leonard leaves behind special family members from previous marriage: Elvin, Eric, Dillion, Cheyenne, Zack and Haley Atkeson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Minnie May Chasteen, and siblings Clayton, Foy, Oliver, Marie, Mae, Mable, Otis and Aubrey.
